Tips for Net Surfing Beginners

How to Use "Links" to Surf the Net
A "link" (or hyperlink) on a web page can be clicked on (by using your mouse) to quickly take you to another location on that web page or to a completely different web page. On every page of this web site, any word that is underlined and nearly any image you see is a link. You can click on any link and it will move you (change your view) to another location.

If you point the cursor with your mouse at an image on this web site and wait a second or two, a message will pop up to tell you where the link will take you. Examples of images include the round, blue navigation buttons that you will see below in the next panel. Throughout this web site there are hundreds of images that were carefully selected for each individual link to instantly show you what type of web page it links to.

Using the Back Arrow to Return to the Current Page
Go ahead and try clicking on one of the blue navigation buttons or some underlined text in the panel below. With most web browsers such as Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Internet Explorer you can return here easily by clicking on the "back" arrow. The "back" arrow is usually found near the upper-left corner of your computer screen and points to the left. After you "go back" to a web page, you can also reverse the direction of your web surfing and "go forward" easily by clicking on the other ("forward") arrow, the one that points to the right.

How to Use the Navigation Bar
A picture of a navigation bar is shown below. You will see a navigation bar at the top and bottom of nearly every page of this web site. When you click on one of the icons (the little pictures inside the blue circles) on the navigation bar, you will move (your view will change) to the location described below:

This is just a picture of a navigation bar; it does not work like a real navigation bar

If you would like more information about using some of the icons (or buttons) on the navigation bar, keep on reading below:

Help!
We have put a link to our help page on every web page on our site. You can find it by looking for the big question mark (?)

Go to the Help Center
on one of the circular buttons on the navigation bar. The navigation bars are located near the top and bottom of every page, including this page. We felt it is important to always have easy access to help. The help page features topics related to surfing the Internet but actually provides access to many of the best general sources for help on computer-related issues. Most of the help is generic as it is found on other web sites, but you will also find some help specifically designed for this web site. We recommend that you take a look at the Help Center now to familiarize yourself with the resources that are available there.

Home Sweet Home
You can click on the additional navigation bar buttons to quickly access other important places, such as the Picture Surfing Web Sites Home Page.

Go to the Home Page
If you feel lost or are having trouble finding something, just scroll up or down until you see a navigation bar and then click on the Home Page button. The Home Page was designed to help you find any of the other Picture Surfing web sites.

Here Is A Tip - In Case You Forget
If you can't remember what one of the buttons does, just point (without clicking) at the button with your cursor (e.g., by using your mouse). In a second or two, a message should pop up to tell you the details. You can use the same technique to get more details about almost any of the picture (image) links on this web site. Almost all of the images on this web site are actually hyperlinks that will bring you to another location when you click on them. Good luck and have fun!
